PURPOSE:To improve an output linearity with a rotation angle by a method wherein a center axis of a magnetic field generating means in a rotating shaft direction is so set to be able to move rotationally over MR elements. CONSTITUTION:A center axis c of a permanent magnet 7 rotationally through patterns of MR (ferromagnetic magnetoresistance) elements 2a and 2b. Therefore, without being applied with a magnetic field containing a radial component reducing the reluctance value of the MR element 2b, the MR element 2b near the axis c can be applied with only a vertical component of a magnetic field H1 not varying the reluctance value of it. Thereby, the difference in a reluctance value between the MR elements 2a and 2b can be made the most, whereby a output Vout is enabled to be larger and excellent in linearity with a rotation angle. As a square pillar-like permanent magnet 7 is used as a magnetic field generating its means, its magnetization is performed only in a direction parallel with rotating shaft 6a and accomplished with ease.
