The invention relates to a tipping container for vehicles, in particular rail vehicles, which can be tilted with respect to the underframe of the vehicle about at least one preferably horizontal axis which lies at the bottom in order to empty out the load under the force of gravity and has at least one flap which is coupled at its upper edge area to the tipping container so as to be capable of pivoting about an axis which preferably extends parallel to the tipping axis. In order to be able to dispense with flap drives which are complex and susceptible to faults and to provide automatic locking and unlocking of the flap as a function of the tipping process, the flap can be locked in the normal position in which it closes the tipping container by at least one sliding element which interacts with a curved element in a positively engaging fashion with respect to the underframe of the vehicle. This positive locking is automatically released by a movement of the tipping container about the tipping axis.
