Previous automatic contact covers for covering, in a manner which prevents items being touched (for electric-shock protection) and is proof against tools, of the permanently installed isolating contacts (self-coupling separable contacts, disconnecting contacts, primary disconnecting devices) of switching installations are structurally designed such that covering slides (shutters) (which are operated via lever mechanisms at the sides and are moved by the influence of spring force and the force of gravity) are positioned in front of the corresponding perforations in the covering plates when the push-in apparatuses are moved into the TEST to OFF operating modes. The new contact cover is intended to ensure reliable covering by positive guidance of a covering plate and at the same time to dispense with a drive by means of spring force or the force of gravity and to dispense with guide systems for covering slides. A plate (3) which covers the region of the permanently installed isolating contacts (1) in a manner which prevents items being touched and is proof against tools is mounted on a moving frame (7) towards the push-in apparatus so that the covering of the isolating contacts (1) is ensured in the TEST to OFF operating modes of the push-in apparatus. The perforations (4) can be surrounded by projecting frames (5) and the permanently installed isolating contacts (1) are provided at the ends which project into the push-in unit with electrical insulating parts (6) which fill the frames (5).
