A holding device (9) has, on a vertical stand (11), an extension arm (22) which is pivotable about a horizontal axis (21) and supports at its free end a holder (26) for holding a rubber plate (5) of a wheel spring (2). An elastic-spring arrangement (30) serves initially to prestress the extension arm (22) upwards, but after crossing a dead centre prestresses it downwards. As a result, the extension arm (22) automatically pivots from a given position so far downwards that the holder (26) is released from the rubber plate (5). <IMAGE>
