PURPOSE:To detect the correlation of a horizontal direction with high accuracy by obtaining a luminance signal level at the consecutive points including and aimed point as a center and discriminating the correlation based on the difference signal between these luminance signals. CONSTITUTION:A sampling composite video signal COMP is supplied to delay circuits 1-4 which delays the COMP as much as a sampling cycle and the data A-E on the respective two data before and behind centering the aimed point PC is obtained. The data of adjacent two points among the data A-E is added to address 8-10 and the luminance signal levels Y1-Y3 at the consecutive points before and behind centering aimed point PC are obtained. The absolute values Y1- Y3 of the defference between these luminance signals is obtained and a first to a third correlation output CO1-CO3 are obtained by respectively comparing these absolute values with reference values REF1-REF3 by the aid of comparators 13, 18 and 21. When all these correlation output is correlated with one another, a flag FLG which shows their correlation is outputted by an AND circuit 15.
