Process for the aseptic packaging or decanting of foodstuffs, such as meat, fish, vegetables or fruit, by sterilisation of the outer packagings or containers and of a material and by the packaging or decanting of the material under sterile conditions, the material to be packaged or decanted being guided in a thin layer past a microwave-generating station, and the conveying speed of the material and the microwave energy being selected in such a way that the sterilisation of the material is guaranteed, but an excessive thermal load on the material is avoided.
