The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for direct current actuator-operated direct current shunt motors and is suitable for the "driving", "mains brake" and "mains-independent rheostatic brake" operating states. Such circuits are required in drive controls, e.g. in railway systems. The invention is intended to provide a simple circuit which has fully electronic means, can be used universally and at the same time improves adjustment facilities. This is achieved by the following features: - armature and field-current circuit of the motor (1) are connected via in each case one activatable and de-activatable semiconductor valve (V1, V5) to a common direct voltage source (UN) and can be controlled independently of one another, - both circuits are assigned separate freewheeling paths by means of freewheeling diodes (V3, V6), - a further activatable and de-activatable semiconductor valve (V2) which can be driven separately and has a braking resistor (RB) in series is arranged antiparallel to the freewheeling diode (V3) of the armature circuit and - a non-control valve (V4) is connected antiparallel to the controllable semiconductor valve (V1) of the armature circuit. <IMAGE>
