[Also in Division F2] In a unitory constructed power plant comprising an engine 17, torque converter 4, change-speed gear 1 and differential gear 2 each arranged in separate housings or casings and built up in a unit assembly, the differential gear housings 12 is formed with two identical joint faces 11, 15 whereby the differential gear 2 may be included in the assembly Fig. 1 for a front wheel drive arrangement, or recovered from the assembly Fig. 4 for a rear wheel drive arrangement, the change-speed gear 1 then being connected direct to the torque converter 4. In Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the C.S.G. 1 and differential gear 2 are disposed beneath the engine 17 and torque converter 4, the transmission and final drive being driven from the engine via a chain (18), the free end face of the differential housings 2 being closed by a cover (19). The torque-converter housing 4a and C.S.G. housings 1 are formed in one piece, and the differential housing 2 is in two parts split along a common longitudinal joint face 12, a seal 16 on a partition 13 ensuring that the differential housing and C.S.G. housing are each fluid tight for retaining lubricant consistent with the enclosed gears i.e. extreme pressure oil for the differential. |
