PURPOSE:To improve fuel efficiency, by a method wherein, when during operation of a parking brake, an automatic transmission switch detects a shift position other than a parking position, a crank shaft and a propeller shaft are released from coupling to each other. CONSTITUTION:A switch TSW, detecting each position of the shift lever of an automatic transmission TC, is provided, and a transmission shifter MC, capable of controlling release of a crank shaft and a propeller shaft from coupling to each other, is situated to the transmission TC. Further, a car speed detector SP for detecting non-running of an automobile and a switch PBS for detecting operation of a parking brake are provided. When, during operation of the parking brake and in a non-running state, the switch TSW detects a shift position other than the stop position of parking, an output is generated from a shifting circuit MCC to actuate a mission shifter MC. This constitution release a crank shaft and a propeller from coupling to each other.
