PURPOSE:To speedily eliminate an ink absence signal immediately after supplying an ink, by passing the ink from an ink supplying source according to restoration of a pressure regulating member after the supply of the ink, thereby speedily recovering the liquid level in a residual ink amount detector which level has been lowered. CONSTITUTION:When the absence of an ink is detected by a residual ink amount detection signal and a new main ink tank is fitted, valves 16, 17 are closed, while a valve 15 is opened, and a pressurizing member 14 is operated. As a result, the ink in the pressurizing member 14 flows into a residual ink amount detector 12 to raise the liquid surface of the ink. In this condition, the valve 17 is opened, and the valve 15 is closed, whereby the ink is sucked out from the main tank 18, and flows into the detector 12. When the liquid level of the ink in the detector 12 is recovered to above an electrode 3, the valves 15, 16 are opened, whereby a forced recovering operation is completed. Thus, it is speedily detected by the residual amount detector that the new main ink tank is fitted thereto. |
