In a bandsaw with an endlessly revolving saw band (2) which is accommodated on at least two band wheels (3), of which one is connected to a drive motor (7) via a back-gear arrangement (8) having several output speeds, considerable ease of operation is achieved by the back-gear arrangement (8) having a transmission shaft (9) which can be driven by means of the drive motor (7) and on which a drive gear (6) in drive interaction with the driven band wheel (3) is mounted in a freely rotatable manner. By means of a locking device (13), the drive gear (6), in such a way as to be locked in terms of rotation, can alternatively be coupled to a driving element (10), connected to the transmission shaft (9) in such a way as to be locked in terms of rotation, or a further driving element (11) which, in such a way as to be locked in terms of rotation, is connected to an output gear (12), mounted in a freely rotatable manner on the transmission shaft (9), of a reduction gear unit (25) which can be driven by means of the transmission shaft (9). <IMAGE>
