PURPOSE:To prevent absorption of moisture from the outside so that a thin film magnetic head is suitable for severe environmental conditions by coating the gap layer on the lower magnetic pole of said head with a 1st insulating layer and 2nd insulating layer consisting of an inorg. material. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head is formed by laminating the 1st insulating layer 4A, a coil 5, the 2nd insulating layer 6A, an upper magnetic pole 7 and a protective layer 8 successively on the lower magnetic pole 2 and gap layer 3 formed on a substrate 1 so as to cover said layers. The 1st insulating layer 4A and the 2nd insulating layer 6A are respectively formed by sputtering vapor deposition of the inorg. material such as TiO2. Since the infiltration of the moisture from the outside to the head is thereby prevented, the cracking of the magnetic head is prevented. The normal operation of the head even under the conditions of a high temp. and high humidity is, therefore, permitted and the reliability thereof is improved. |
