In an axially movable caged ball universal joint the inner surface of the outer member 10 is cylindrical and the outer surface of the cage 17 is spherical, while the outer surface of the inner member 3 and inner surface of the cage 17 are each formed with a spherical portion 20 or 26 at one end and a conical portion 24 or 27 at the other. The apex angle of cone 27 is less than that of cone 24, and may be zero so that surface 27 is cylindrical. The spherical and conical surfaces may adjoin each other directly or join short intermediate cylindrical surfaces 30, 31.
