PURPOSE:To always read data surely independently of the recording direction by applying rearrangement and selection of the modulation rule for data in the recording from other direction so that the same data direction, and modulation rule are obtained when viewed from one direction of a relative reversing so as to record data in two-direction of the reversing drive. CONSTITUTION:A recording card medium is reciprocated to a recording head to record the data in both the directions. In the recording in the forward direction, after a parallel data to be recorded is converted into a serial data, the data is modulated from a prescribed direction according to the prescribed modulation rule and the result is recorded on the recording card medium. In the reverse recording, the parallel data is converted into the serial data in the order supplying the same recording result as that from the forward direction and the data is modulated by using the modulation rule to supply the same result as that at the forward direction and the data is recorded on the recording card medium. Thus, in recording data in both the forward/reverse directions, the recorded data is read independently of the recording direction of the data.
