PURPOSE:To display the demonstration of the setting procedure of the function of a concerned video equipment on a screen by multiple pressing the specific operating switch of the video equipment. CONSTITUTION:A key input from a remote control transmitter 4 is inputted to a microcomputer 2 through a receiving part 5. The microcomputer 2 receives this key input, and then, feeds data D for displaying on the screen a function corresponding to the key, a clock CK and a strobe signal ST to a character generating IC 6. This IC 6 decides a display position on the screen of a character signal C supplied to a TV receiver 7 based on a horizontal synchronizing signal HS and a vertical signal Vs. A background color signal B for deciding the background of the screen is supplied to the TV receiver 7 from the IC 6. Then, when the operating switch is multiple depressed, the data of the setting procedure is outputted to the IC 6 by the microcomputer 2 and the on-screen display is executed according to the setting procedure.
