PURPOSE:To make the whole of a device small-sized and thin by laying a torsion bar of an optical scanning unit in parallel with a device substrate. CONSTITUTION:A light source unit, an optical scanning unit 34, and an optical system unit 36 are arranged as one body on a device substrate 30, and the optical scanning unit 34 is provided with an electromagnetically driving mechanism 62 to drive and rotate an armature consisting of a torsion bar 52 and a rotor 58 at a prescribed angle. In this case, optical scanning unit 34 is so laid that its torsion bar 52 is parallel with the horizontally arranged device substrate 30. Thus, the whole of the device is made thin, and a scanning beam of long optical path length advances approximately in parallel with the device substrate 30 to make the whole of the optical scanner small-sized and thin.
