PURPOSE:To execute the action of an automatic answering telephone in the case of making a caller register an important message by executing switching from a normal telephone circuit to an automatic answering telephone circuit only when a specific ringing signal pattern is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a detection circuit 33 receives a ringing signal from an exchange 10, it detects the pattern of the received ringing signal and outputs a pattern signal to a switch control circuit 34. When the switch control circuit 34 receives the pattern signal, it transmits a switching instruction signal to a switch 31 if the pattern which is informed by the pattern signal is that which a caller desires to record the important message. The switch 31 changes over an armature 310 from a contact point A to a contact point B by the switching instruction signal, and connects the automatic answering telephone circuit 35 to the exchange 10.
