VACCINE FOR THE PREVENTION OF MAREK'S DISEASE

A cell free supernatant of whole, live cells of an attenuated lymphoblastoid cell line has been isolated which comprises an immunogenic agent which provides protection to an animal against infection by Marek's disease virus or a serologically related strain thereof when contacted with the immune system of the chicken. The cell line JMV-1 (ATCC No. CRL 9093) is utilized. A vaccine for conferring upon a chicken active immunity against infection by Marek's disease virus or a serologically related strain thereof comprises per dose an effective immunizing amount of cell free supernatant and suitable carrier.
