PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of a transfer belt by providing a shaking member which is shaked at the time of starting or stopping rotation of a transfer belt and an energizing member. CONSTITUTION:A shaking member 10 which is shaked at the time of starting or stopping rotation of a transfer belt 1 and an energizing member 15 are provided. In accordance with the shaking operation of the member 10, the energizing member 15 energizes a roller 2b in such direction at the time of starting rotation that tension is applied to the transfer belt 1, and the energizing member 15 releases the energizing state at the time of stopping rotation. When rotation of the transfer belt is started, the shaking member 10 is shaked and the energizing member 15 energizes the roller 2b, around which the transfer belt 1 is stretched, to apply tension to the transfer belt 1; and when rotation of the transfer belt 1 is stopped, the energizing member 15 releases the energizing force by shake of the shaking member 10 to weaken the tension of the transfer belt 1. Thus, the transfer belt is prevented from being left for a long time under strong tension and deformation of the transfer belt is prevented.
