PURPOSE:To automatically remove paper powder accumulated on a printing press blanket cylinder, by a method wherein a cleaning liquid, such as water, is directly jetted on the printing press blanket cylinder, and a cloth, brush, or roller is pressed against the surface of the blanket cylinder. CONSTITUTION:In the cleaning of a printing press blanket cylinder by using water as a cleaning liquid, the water is directly jetted onto the surface of the blanket cylinder out of jet nozzles 9 and, simultaneously, paper powder accumulated on the surface of the blanket cylinder is made to adhere to a cloth 15 which is pressed against the blanket cylinder by a cloth presser 8, whereby the powder is removed from the blanket cylinder and the water is also wiped off. A water jet device 7 consists of two or more nozzles, horizontally arranged in the width direction of the printing press blanket cylinder, and a pipe arrangement therefor. The cloth presser 8 consists of the cloth 15, a cloth pressing mechanism pressing the cloth against the printing press blanket cylinder by a cloth pressing roller 14 etc. by the aid of an air cylinder 13, and a cloth feeding mechanism which feeds the cloth from a new cloth take-up roll 16 to an old cloth take-up roll 17, for example, by actuating a motor for a fixed period of time just when the cloth pressing roller 14 is separated from the blanket cylinder. The automatic removing can completely eliminate a manual operation preformed by operators, which has conventionally taken more than 10 minutes, and realize a shorter interruption of printing time, a higher productivity, and a reduced labor of operators.
