PURPOSE:To permit stable and continuous electric discharge coating, by forming a coating material electrode to a fine wire shape so that the electrode can be continuously let off and supplied at the time of coating the surface of a work by generating pulse discharge in the slight spacing between the work and the coating material electrode. CONSTITUTION:The fine-wire-shaped coating electrode 1 which is made of an optional metal or alloy to 0.1-1.0mm diameter is let off from a bobbin 5 and is passed through a guide 4 so as to provide the slight spacing between the electrode and the work 2 on a working table 3. A pulse voltage is impressed to said slight spacing via a current conductor 18 from a power source 19 for working to generate the pulse discharge so that the coating layer by the material of the electrode 1 is formed on the surface of the work 2. The fine wire electrode 1 is subjected to servo feeding of feed shafts 9, 10 by servo motors 11, 12 to maintain the above-mentioned spacing always at a specified value. The work 2 is moved parallel in a prescribed area range by X-Y plane feed motors 15, 16 and an NC unit 17, by which the precise coating having no unevenness is formed on the prescribed area.
