PURPOSE:To obtain the title polyvalent metal adduct resin improved in yellowing resistance and color developability and useful as a color developer, by reacting a salicylic acid derivative with a styrene derivative in the presence of a strong acid catalyst and reacting the product with a polyvalent metal salt. CONSTITUTION:A salicylic acid derivative of formula I is reacted with a styrene derivative of formula II in the presence of a strong acid catalyst,and the obtained resin composition is reacted with a polyvalent metal salt. In this way, a salicylic acid resin adducted polyvalent metal of a weight-average MW of 500-10,000, comprising structural units (I) of at least one of formulas III, IV, etc. and structural units (II) of at least one of formulas V-VII, wherein units (I) are present in an amount of 10-40mol.%, units (II) are present in an amount of 60-90mol.%, unit (I) is bonded to unit (II) through the alpha-carbon atom or units (II), units (II) are bonded to each other through their alpha-carbon atoms. In the formulas, R1, R2, R3 and R3' are each H, a 1-12 C alkyl or the like, X and X' are each a direct bond, a 1-5 C straight-chain group or the like, n is 1 or 0, R4 and R5 are each H or methyl and R6 is H, a 1-4 C lower alkyl or the like. |
