PURPOSE:To improve the control accuracy by measuring the required time between preset crank angles, determining the angle time conversion value, and making this conversion value different from measured values or the average value in response to the operating condition of an engine. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 22 receives a cylinder judging signal, a TDC signal (per 120 deg.), and a unit angle signal (a TDC period has 4 stages) from a crank angle sensor 20 and various signals from a pressure sensor 28 or the like and corrects the ignition timing basic value and calculates the final ignition timing. Next, when the engine rotation speed is the preset low rotating speed or lower, the period of the stage having a similar engine rotating speed change rate is selected as the angle time conversion value. At the preset medium rotating speed, the stage period nearest to the ignition stage is selected. At the preset high rotating speed or higher, the average value of four stage periods is selected. The time conversion value is determined and outputted based on this selected conversion value.
