PURPOSE:To obtain a uniformly oriented ferroelectric liq. crystal capable of obtaining an increased tilt angle by providing an orientation control film to at least one among a couple of parallel substrates, and using a resin capable of curing the film in the presence of an epoxy cross-linking group. CONSTITUTION:A couple of the parallel upper substrate 11a and lower substrate 11b are provided, and wired transparent electrodes 12a and 12b are respectively furnished to the substrates. A ferroelectric liq. crystal or preferably the ferroelectric liq. crystal 13 of a non-helical structure having at least two stable states is arranged between the upper substrate 11a and the lower substrate 11b. Besides, the orientation control films 14a and 14b respectively formed by curing the film of a compd. contg. an epoxy cross-linking group are arranged on the substrates 11a and 11b. As a result, a uniformly oriented ferroelectric liq. crystal capable of obtaining an increased tilt angle is realized, and the uniformly oriented state can be maintained for a long time. |
