PURPOSE:To prevent the release of a film and to also remove air bubbles from the film, in coating the magnetic recording medium formed on a non-magnetic support, by respectively changing the viscosities of paints at the time of coating. CONSTITUTION:When paint having low viscosity is applied to a non-magnetic support as the first paint film 2, the thickness of the film is reduced and the film is quickly dried to allow no air bubble to remain in the film. Next, paint having viscosity higher than that of the paint of the first layer is used to form the second paint film 3. Since this film has high viscosity, a long time is required for drying but, since defoaming is sufficiently performed during this time, a pinhole or foam does not remain in the film. Since the same kind of a paint film is already present on a substrate as an undercoat layer, the adhesiveness of the film does not lower. As mentioned above, since the substrate film is low in viscosity, said film is sufficiently dried as compared with the upper layer film at the time of the coating of the upper layer film and foam does not appear in the lower layer film. Thus, a homogeneous magnetic recording medium film can be obtained.
