PURPOSE:To polish a workpiece with high precision and high workability by a small-sized polisher in installing an optical connector at the site by polishing the workpiece into a projecting surface form on an elastic polisher by setting the angle of the flat surface part at the top edge of a ferrule in 110-160 deg.. CONSTITUTION:The diameter phi of the flat surface part at the top edge of a single core optical connector ferrule is set to 1 mm or so, and the top edge angle theta is varied in 110-160 deg., and PC polishing is carried out on an elastic polisher 20. In the elastic polisher 20, a polishing sheet 21 having a roughness of 1mum or so is constituted by interposing an elastic body 22 having a Young's modulus of about 500 on a metal polishing plate 23, and when a ferrule 10 is pressed onto the polishing sheet 21, the elastic body 22 is elastically deformed, and polishes the top edge 11 into a projecting surface form by utilizing the force which said elastic deformation exerts onto the ferrule 10. Therefore, the workpiece can be polished into a projection surface form with high precision and high workability even by a small-sized polisher in installing an optical connector at a site. |
