PURPOSE:To enable an accurate recording position control with high precision, by controlling an exciting phase of a pulse motor at an initial position to be the same as an exciting phase stored in a storage means, at the time of returning a carrier to the initial position when a power source is turned ON. CONSTITUTION:With a power source switched ON, a pulse motor 1 is operated by one step by exciting the next phase, thereby moving a carrier 3 in the direction of an arrow 12a, and the exciting phase of the carrier motor at the time of turning-ON of a position detecting switch 11 is stored as N into a RAM. On the other hand, when there is a need for an operator's operation including direct touch with a carrier 3 during printing and a reset signal is generated for returning to the printing condition after the operation, the carrier 3 is moved in the direction of the arrow 12a, and the exciting phase at the time of turning-ON of the switch 11 is stored as M. The phase N and the phase M are compared with each other, and when N-1 <= M <= N+1, M is regarded as N even when M is not exactly equal to N, whereby reproducibility of a printing position of the carrier 3 is secured.
