The following are claimed: (A) compact globular structures of differentiated plant cells without significant meristematic activity; (B) compact globular structures of plant cells which have some meristematic activity and are not significantly differentiated; (C) prodn. of sec. metabolites of plant cells is effected by culturing structures of type (A) and isolated quinolines, indole alkaloids, and/or anthraquinones from the culture liq. and/or cell mass.
