A method for managing colonies of bees includes forming a colony in frames with bases in the spring in order to obtain a hive, and expanding the hive during the honey season several times by inserting extra frames with bases into the hive. Before inserting extra frames, the hive is divided vertically into two parts in its middle and extra frames with bases are introduced between the two separate parts of the hive. The expansion of the bee colony amounts each time to 0.25 to 0.35 parts of the total volume of the hive.
