PURPOSE:To eliminate occurrence of overheat and to achieve high speed printing, by providing a heating means sectioned into at least five blocks and outputting a block control signal for enabling heating of said block for every other block. CONSTITUTION:A heating element 10 is sectioned into eight blocks B1-B8, for example, where 300 heating elements 10 are provided in each block and controlled by respective drive circuits C1-C8 to produce heat. CPU22 is provided in a printer and controls a motor 32, head control circuit 20, etc., according to a program stored in a program memory 24. Print data fed from a computer 34 is stored in a memory 26 through an interface 30 then provided through the head control circuit 20 to the drive circuits C1-C8. Since heating is carried out for a time interval (t) in the order of blocks B1, B3, B5, B7, B2, B4, B6, B8, heating elements in adjoining blocks are not heated continuously in time sequence, thereby unnecessary printing is not carried out. Furthermore, printing speed is increased because only a time of 8t is required. |
