PURPOSE:To enable formation of a power supply layer two times as wide as a heating element, by arranging power supply layers brought into contact with the same end portion of a row of heating elements such that the power supply layers of odd number are arranged directly on the heating element, while the power supply layers of even number are arranged on a protection insulating layer for the heating element and brought into contact through contact holes with heating elements. CONSTITUTION:When one heating element 33 in a row of heating elements arranged in parallel with predetermined pitch on the upper side face of an insulating substrate 31 is concerned, a power supply underlayer 35 brought into contact with said heating element 33 at one end side and extending to a drive element, and a power supply upper layer 41 coming into contact with the other end through a contact hole 39 made through a protection/insulating layer 37 on the row of heating elements are provided, and the portion between said power supply layers serves as a heating section 43. 45 represents an anti-abrasion film. When compared with a conventional thermal head wherein all of power supply elements are arranged on a single plane, interconnecting portion (W2) between the heating element and the drive element separated from said heating element by such distance as causes no hindrance for printing can be approximately doubled. |
