PURPOSE:To facilitate detection of a holdup in paper sheets and its elimination, by combining each output of a sensor, detecting movement conditions of a c.w/c.c.w. traveling means to freely advance or retreat to or from the conveying passage installed in one side of the conveying passage, and a paper sheet passing sensor at the downstream of the c.w./c.c.w. traveling means. CONSTITUTION:A belt 24, freely advancing or retreating to or from a conveying passage 11 and rotating clockwise or counterclockwise, is installed between belts 18 and 19 erected at one side of a belt 11 conveying in an A direction, and a state of fullness on the conveying passage 11 is detected by a detecting piece 41 in a terminal of a plate 27 supporting shafts 25 and 26 of this belt 24 and a photocoupler 42. A light receiving element 22 is installed between belts 19 and 20. In the opposite side of the conveying passage 11, there are provided a belt 12, a takeout 13, an light emitting element 21 and a belt 17. When a flow of paper sheets to be fed in an upright state is smoothness, the belt 24 is reversed, pressing the paper sheet to the takeout 13, and conveys it to the down stream in consecutive order by adsorption. When it fails to detect physical distribution by these light emitting and receiving elements 21 and 22, the photocoupler 42 detects the fullness, and the belt 24 rotates clockwise, feeding the paper sheet to the downstream. With this constitution, detection of a holdup in the paper sheet and its elimination are made easy enough.
