PURPOSE:To prevent the influence of noise to be jumped into an overflow gate by making a voltage to be impressed to the overflow gate into a pulse, and stopping the function of the overflow gate during a horizontal blanking period by lowering the voltage of the overflow gate. CONSTITUTION:A waveforms, shown by a figure, are vertical clock pulse waveforms phiv1-phiv4 and a voltage waveform VOFG to be impressed to an over flow gate wire 12. The voltage, which is impressed to the overflow gate during the horizontal blanking period when the jump-in noise due to a vertical clock pulse appears, is lowered. Namely, during a horizontal scanning period, an overflow gate voltage VOFG is high, and the sweep of an excess charge is nor mally performed. Besides, because the overflow gate voltage VOFG is low during the horizontal blanking period, the function of the overflow gate is stopped, and the influence of the jump-in noise never appears of cource. Here, it is enough to set the amplitude DELTAV of the overflow gate larger than the amplitude VP of a clock noise Vn.
