PURPOSE:To execute an efficient inference by constituting the titled system so that priority and the number of pieces of data which becomes an object for collating the condition of the inference can be designated from an application program. CONSTITUTION:An application program 2 designates a retrieval condition, and requests an extraction of a subset to a subset extracting means 5. The subset extracting means 5 retrieves the data for satisfying a designated retrieval condition from a working memory 1, and a result of retrieval is stored in a partial ordered set storage area 4. To this partially ordered set, a partially ordered set identifier for discriminating it well-definedly is given. The application program 2 extracts plural partially ordered sets prior to execution of an inference. Subsequently, by designating the partially ordered set, a partially ordered set selecting means 5 is called, and the partially ordered set which becomes an object of the inference is extracted. Thereafter, in response to an inference executing instruction of the application program 2, a condition collating means 7 operates.
