PURPOSE:To obtain a magneto-optical disk having high magneto-optical recording and reproducing characteristics and excellent long-term durability by using metal oxide having a specific compsn. for a dielectric film as an interference film. CONSTITUTION:The metal oxide having the compsn. which is any among AOa, DOa or AxD1-xOa (where A is Zr or Cr, D is Hf or Zn, a>=0.5, 0<x<1) is used for the dielectric film as the interference film. In this component, (a) is stable in a wide range and, therefore, said component absorbs oxygen even if the oxygen is intruded into the film from the outside. The high effect as a protective film to prevent the oxidation of a magneto-optical recording medium layer is thus obtd. The metal is formed in the dielectric film and the transparent film having uniform quality is not formed if (a) is below the lower limit. On the other hand, the oxygen or nitrogen is excessive and this excess oxygen or nitrogen intrudes into the magneto-optical recording medium layer to deteriorate the characteristics thereof if (a) exceeds the upper limit.
