PURPOSE:To reduce the memory area for data and to increase the processing speed by performing fractionation processing to fractionize a polygon only when the change of luminance is great. CONSTITUTION:An arithmetic processing device 2b calculates the luminance of the polygon in accordance with a scan line algorithm of three-dimensional computer graphics. At his time, a sample point is provided in the polygon by a fractionation processing means, and the luminance obtained by shading of this sample point is compared with an actual luminance, and the fractionation processing for fractionizing the polygon by this sample point is performed only when the difference of luminance is great. The same processing is repeated for divided polygons to divide only parts of higher luminance into smaller polygons.
