PURPOSE:To prevent outward inflation of side wall and to prevent removal of a pad, by forming a portion for bending the central section inwardly when viewed from above on the side wall of a backup plate for holding an inflator which inflates a gas bag in order to protect a crewman. CONSTITUTION:A backup plate 16 is formed into a box having a bottom wall 16A which is rectangular when viewed from above and secured through bolts to a movable contact plate with a pad 21, a gas bag 2, an inflator 3, etc., being held therein. The inflator 3 is arranged in a large diameter insertion hole 16a made in the center of the bottom wall 16A, and the flange section 3a thereof is secured through bolts together with a holder 4. Here, a portion 16f bendable inwardly when viewed from above is formed in the center of the side walls 16B, 16C at the long side of the bottom wall 16A near to the gas bag 2. Consequently, outward inflation of the side walls 16B, 16C is prevented so as to prevent partial removal of the pad 21. |
