PURPOSE:To perform a prefect recording without reversing a recording sheet by providing recording heads on both surfaces of the recording sheet and permitting these heads to run a main scanning simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:A recording sheet 14 is transported by means of platens 9, 10, the front of the recording sheet 14 makes contact with the platen 9, while the rear of the recording sheet 14 touches the platen 10. If a recording start button is depressed and carriages 3, 7 are set to a start position, a recording head 5 is released with only a recording head 1 allowed to contact under pressure. Thus the head 1 heats an ink ribbon 16 in response to the record contents according to record information. This heated part sticks to the front of the recording sheet 14, fixing an image. After this, recording by the recording head 1 proceeds and the recording head 5 is set to a pressure contact state at a time when the tip of the recording sheet 14 is exposed between the platen 9 and the head 5. In this way, recording is performed on the front of the recording sheet 14 and at that time, the rear of the sheet is also recorded by the head 1 because the carriage 7 moves together with the carriage 3.
