PURPOSE:To obtain an ink jet recording sheet superior in ink absorption and water resistance, by a method wherein a modified polyvinyl alcohol having a specific unit and a water-resisting agent are contained in a substrate and/or the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:A modified PVA having a unit shown by Formula I (wherein R<1>, R<2> represent hydrogen or methyl, and R<3> represents hydrogen or 4 or less C alkyl group) is obtained by saponifying a copolymer of a vinyl ester and a monomer shown by Formula II. As the vinyl eater, vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, and others are used. As the monomer shown by Formula II, N- methylole (met)acrylamide, N-methoxymethyl (met)acrylamide, and others are used. As a water resisting agent, an acid ammonium salt or a methylole- containing compound is preferably used. As a transparent substrate, a film or sheet made of polyester, polystyrene, or others, a high-transparency paper, or the like is used. As an opaque substrate, a general-purpose paper, a pigment- coated paper, or the like is used. As a result, an ink jet recording sheet superior in ink absorption and water resistance is obtained. |
