PURPOSE:To control grinding amounts and to perform continuous grinding by connecting a highly pressurized water generation device to nozzles movable in the axial direction of work rolls and injecting the water onto necessary parts for grinding. CONSTITUTION:Nozzles 7 having a header 6 are supported by a supporting device 9 and are movable in the axial direction of work rolls 2 by a mover device consisting of a motor 12, etc., and are connected to a highly pressurized water generation device 8 consisting of a hydraulic unit 14 and a booster 15, etc. A roll profile is detected by a prescribed sensor and the roll is ground to remove a step between worn parts and nonrolling parts of the roll with a highly pressurized water of an injection pressure of >=3000kg/cm<2> injected from a distance of 5-30mm. Thus, grinding amounts are controlled and the grinding is continuously performed.
