PURPOSE:To attain accurate white balance correction by detecting the difference of reflected light when specific light is radiated to an object and not radiated, calculating the color of a light source based thereupon and controlling the color signal control circuit. CONSTITUTION:The incident light formed an image on an image pickup element 23 is separated into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal by a signal processing circuit 24 and the chrominance signal is inputted to a color signal control circuit 25. The output of the circuit 25 is inputted partly to a color signal processing circuit 29 and becomes a chrominance signal in a video signal and inputted partly to a chrominance signal comparison circuit 26 as the white balance correction signal. The circuit 26 detects the unbalanced color and outputs its information to a color calculation circuit 27. Moreover, a part of the luminance signal outputted from the circuit 24 is inputted to the luminance signal comparator circuit 28, the lightness at light emission of a luminous body and at normal image pickup is compared and the result is inputted to the circuit 27. The circuit 27, based on the color information from the circuit 26 and the luminance difference information from the circuit 28, calculates the color of the light source and outputs the color control signal corresponding thereto to the circuit 25 to correct the white balance.
