PURPOSE:To increase output in a low-frequency region by specifying the orientation direction of a tape-like magnetic recording medium to the recording direction where a head scans at the time of recording and reproduction of the tape in a stage for orienting said recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The orientation direction of the tape-like magnetic recording medium is specified to the recording direction where the head scans at the time of recording and reproduction of the tape. Magnetic oxide powder of gamma-Fe2O3 or Co-contg. gamma-Fe2O3 or magnetic metallic powder essentially consisting of Fe, Ni and Co is used for this recording medium and a thermoplastic resin, etc. is used for the binder resin. The video track angle of an 8mm video deck is 4 deg.54'13.2 and, therefore, the orientation direction is executed in this direction. The orientation is executed by setting an orienting magnet in such a manner that the magnetic powder is oriented in this direction. The output in the low-frequency region is thereby increased and the color S/N is improved.
