A recuperator is provided for heat exchange between the exhaust exhaust gases and the compressor air, and an intermediate cooler is located between the low and high pressure compressors and an exhaust gas heat exchanger. The required electrical effect is regulated by alteration of the geometry of the low pressure turbine in order to vary its speed at constant combustion chamber temp. The desired heat effect is adjusted by regulating the by-pass flow over the recuperator. Heated water is sprayed into the compressor air ahead of the recuperator. Electricity is produced by a generator connected to the shaft of the high pressure turbine, whilst heat water in the temp. range of 70 - 120 deg. C. is produced in the intermediary cooler and exhaust gas heat exchanger. The shaft of the high pressure turbine rotates at constant speed, whilst that of the low pressure turbine can rotate freely.
