PURPOSE:To permit erasure collectively by allowing the execution of a character erasure action per single line unit, referring to character data in a collection memory based on the operation of a line erasure key, and at the same time, providing a control means to stop the action. CONSTITUTION:When an input is keyed by means of a character key 18 after turning ON a power supply, a printing action is executed, and data of a given character is registered and stored into a correction memory 15. If a line deletion key 19 is pressed, it is checked whether a printed character exists at a present carrier position based on printed character data. If the printed character exists, it is erased by means of a ribbon-off-tape, and deleted from the correction memory 15. If the printed character does not exist, a position in which the nearest printed character exists to the left of the present carrier position, is retrieved and a carrier is moved to erase the character. Thus the character erasure action is continuously executed per single row of printed characters by the repetition of the above-mentioned action.
