An electrical tubular heater is disclosed. It is known for an electrical tubular heater to be provided with a closure plug (sealing plug) (1) which has an inner annular wall (2) which surrounds a central connecting bolt (3), rests by means of an outer annular wall (4) on the inner wall of the outer tube (5), has an intermediate space (interspace) (6) which extends between the annular walls (2, 4) and rests by means of a web (7), which merges in both annular walls (2, 4), on an insulating compound (8) for a heating resistor (9) which is arranged centrally in the outer tube (5). It is intended to prevent the closure plug (1) shifting from its seating like a piston in the event of internal overpressure in the insulating compound (8). In order to prevent such displacement, at least one through cut-out (10) is provided in the web (7), which through cut-out (10) enables pressure equalisation between the space in which pressure is produced and the environment of the tubular heater. <IMAGE>
