A wire magazine for use in a winding machine comprises two mutually openable semi-annular magazine parts individually composed of two shell members (1, 2) separated by a bottom slit facing the axis of the magazine and a wire supply slit located at the outer circumference of the magazine. To obtain an improved winding stability the walls of the bottom outlet slit (8) constituted by flange portions of the shell members (1, 2) are designed with an asymmetric wave shape having a larger radius of curvature and width in the wave troughs (10) than in the crests (11).
