Lockup damper having a substantially annular plate type piston (28) having a profile substantially conforming to that of a front cover (12) and adapted to be moved slidingly in the axial direction, a retaining plate (38) for holding a coiled spring (36) and a side plate (40), which plates are provided on the piston (28), spring seats (44), (50) for compressing the coiled spring (36), which spring seats are formed on the retaining plate (38) and side plate (40), and a power transmission driven plate (30) having a claw (52) extending into the coiled spring (36). This lockup damper is suitable for a torque converter having a front cover (12) protruding at its central portion, and it is simple in construction, light-weight, and inexpensive. |
