Statics of the housing of an axial engine

Piston internal combustion engine, especially a diesel engine, with axial arrangement of the cylinders about a crankshaft and two halves of the engine housing, the tie bolts leading over the cylinder head of one side by way of the two housing halves over the opposing cylinder head and only compressive forces thereby acting on the full length of the housing including the heads, the tie bolts being distributed around the cylinders so that a uniform bearing pressure distribution is achieved, especially at the head/cylinder points of separation.
