An electroluminescing body which is constructed in layers consists of a metal sheet (1) as rear electrode, an electroluminescence layer (2) of luminescent enamel arranged on the metal sheet (1), a front electrode (3) which faces the viewer, is arranged on the luminescent enamel and has a thicker edge strip which is applied along the entire edge of the front electrode (3), with the proviso that both the luminescent enamel (3) and the thicker edge strip (4) are applied by means of silk screen printing. <IMAGE>
