A device for determining the attitude of a motor vehicle has a sensor (3) which is arranged in the cylinder of a shock-absorber and coaxially with its piston (2) and to which sensors devices for signal processing (7) are connected. The sensor (3) comprises two coils (4, 5), which are jointly connected, together with a capacitative element (6), to an oscillator circuit, which is fed by an a.c. current generator (8). A device or circuit arrangement (7) for signal processing contains frequency-to-voltage converters (9, 10, 11) and a comparator (12), at the output of which, finally, there is a signal representing the change in the relative position of the piston (2) in the cylinder (1). <IMAGE>
